Loggia del Pesce

Loggia del Pesce, located today in piazza dei Ciompi, was designed by Giorgio Vasari for Grand Duke Cosimo I in 1567. Working on the Vasari Corridor, the fish sellers who no longer were able to station themselves on Ponte Vecchio, needed a place to sell their wares. The Loggia del Pesce was initially placed where Via Pellicceria is today but, being in the way for the construction site for the Piazza della Repubblica, it was dismantled and rebuilt in Piazza dei Ciompi only in 1956
