Piazza Fra' Girolamo Savonarola

Piazza Fra' Girolamo Savonarola is a rectangular square that was built in the 19th century during the famous Giuseppe Poggi’s plan for the restructuring of the district with the creation of alleys. It was dedicated to the Ferrarese friar only after the statue dedicated to him was placed there several years later. Around the square there are various interesting buildings, such as the Department of Italian Studies, the Rinaldo Carnielo Gallery, the Church of San Francesco and the Teatro Le Laudi. On the first Sunday of the month, the square hosts ‘Savonarola Antiquaria’ where more than 60 exhibitors from the antiques, modern antiques, handicrafts and collecting sectors sell collectibles, gifts, books and much more.
