First Piazza di Porta San Gallo, then Piazza Cavour, Piazza Ciano and Piazza Muti. Finally, only in 1945, Piazza della Libertà.
Whatever the name, this square marks the northernmost point of the historic center of Florence and has become absolutely unmistakable since 1738 thanks to its imposing Triumphal Arch. A symbol of Florence and a functional hub that has been the work of prominent personalities such as Giovanni Poggi and Giacomo Roster. Also noteworthy is the sculpture depicting Apollo and Daphne, by Marcello Tommasi.
