Triumphal Arch in Piazza della Libertà, also known as ‘Triumphal Arch of Lorraine’, is a monument which is almost two meters in height, surrounded by twelve fourteen-meter-high columns and decorated with sixteen statues, each of which is more than 2 meters in heigh. It was built by the architect Jean-Nicolas Jadot between 1737 and 1739 during the only one Francis Stephen of Lorraine’s visit to Florence. The monument features various bas-reliefs and statues, among which stands out the Equestrian Monument by Francis Stephen of Lorraine, the sculptural groups Victory and Slave Trophies and the twelve sculptures representing ancient Greek deities.
