Its name is Paloma, but it is for everyone the Bird of Peretola, the monumental artwork that Ferdinando Botero has donated to the City of Florence.
High 2 meters and 40 centimeters, weighing 1,500 kilos, the bronze sculpture presents the characteristic dilation of volumes, typical of the artworks of the Colombian artist. A marked deformation that Botero uses as a metaphor for the transformation of reality through art. Here understood as a symbol of flight, in relation to its being placed outside the Amerigo Vespucci airport. Several smaller versions of Paloma were made, the most famous of which is the one on display at the Museo Nacional de Colombia.
