Palazzo Medici Riccardi is one of the first Renaissance buildings in Florence, commissioned by Cosimo Il Vecchio to the architect Michelozzo in 1444. It became the official residence of the Medici family until 1540, when it was moved to Palazzo Vecchio. Today the Palazzo houses the offices of the Metropolitan City and the Prefecture of Florence, in addition to a large museum, the Biblioteca Moreniana and the Biblioteca Riccardiana. In the museum you can see wonders, such as the Marble Museum, the Chapel of the Magi, the Madonna and Child and the Mirror Gallery (The Galleria degli Specchi), as well as temporary exhibitions of various kinds.
