Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of the most ancient and famous monuments in Florence. Set in Piazza del Duomo opposite the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, it was built between the 4th and 5th centuries above an ancient Roman temple. Its façades are covered with white and green marble and inside it is decorated with splendid Byzantine mosaics. It has three bronze doors, including The Gate of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti.
