Museum of Geology and Paleontology

Museum of Geology and Paleontology of the University of Florence contains one of the largest paleontological collections in Italy. Here many fossils found in Tuscany, such as those of mastodons and southern mammoths, are exhibited. There are also skeletons of the cave lion, the leopard, the tiger with sabre-like teeth and small invertebrates. The exhibition ends with ‘The Tales of a Whale Room’, in which the skeleton (10 metres long) of a baleen whale, lived three million years ago, is on display.
