Inaugurated by Mayor La Pira in 1963 and designed by architects Damerini-Scalesse, the bridge was an extremely futuristic project for its time, being a single span and in concrete, but above all it was the gateway which finally connected the populous Isolotto district with the Cascine and the city center. Since then it has been used by hundreds of thousands of people every day. On one side it overlooks the Lungarno dei Pioppi and on the other it joins Piazzale Kennedy.
