Cloister of the Scalzo was the entrance to the chapel of the Company of the Disciples of St. John the Baptist, also called ‘the Scalzo’ (‘dello Scalzo’), founded in 1376. Designed by Giuliano da Sangallo, the cloister houses a fresco by Andrea del Sarto and Franciabigio. The fresco was painted with a monochrome technique depicting ten episodes from the life of St. John the Baptist and representing one of the most important phases of the16th-century Florentine painting.
