Church of San Donato in Polverosa

A small gem with great art treasures and an over one-thousand-year-long history. Legend has it that the church was established around the year 1000, following a pagan princess’ conversion to Christianity. The first documented occupants of the church (around the late 1100) were the Augustinian friars, known as the “Polverosi” (the dusty) because of the color of their habit. Today, this magnificent Romanesque-style church houses major works of art, such as the frescoes Madonna with Child by Arcangelo di Jacopo del Sellaio and the Annunciation by Raffaellino del Garbo.
