In the past few years, street art in Florence has grown in popularity and has become a form of artistic expression in its own right. This mural was created in November 2020 by famous Neapolitan artist Jorit, who had already painted the mural dedicated to Mandela on Piazza Leopoldo. This one portrays Antonio Gramsci, the great Sardinian politician and intellectual who was imprisoned under the fascist regime from 1926 to 1937. The choice of a 213-square-meter wall of a housing project was not random: a message inviting the community to fight against inequality and for emancipation.
