Palazzo dei Congressi

Don't be misled by its appearance, this Neo-Renaissance building overlooking via Valfonda is actually one of the most innovative conference centres, the historical venue for the main events of the meeting & incentive industry for Florence.   Built as a villa for the Strozzi family of Mantua in the late 19th century, in 1925 a belvedere was added by architect Micheluzzi when it became the property of Alessandro Contini Bonacossi and renamed Villa Vittoria after his wife.  In the 1960s it was purchased by the Tourist Office and when in1969 the architect Spadolini created the futuristic basement auditorium with a thousand seats and 950 square meters of exhibition space set in the centuries-old park with original and rare plants, it became the nerve center for the local economy. All the halls, the centuries-old park full of rare plants and the adjacent lemon house retain the original charm of the historic residence.
