Designed by architect Leonardo Ricci (a pupil of Giovanni Michelucci) in the 1970s with the aim of bringing together all the judicial buildings scattered throughout the city and locating them in the former FIAT factory area, it was only built in 2000 (6 years after Ricci’s death). Its obvious Futurist and Deconstructivist inspiration give it an austere and intimidating air, which reminds many of a building in the imaginary Gotham City and which is well suited to its function. While the underground floors house the archives, the upper floors are reserved for magistrates and prosecutors. Its colossal dimensions make it the third tallest building in Florence, inferior only to Brunelleschi's Dome and Palazzo Vecchio. Furthermore, it is the second largest Palace of Justice in Italy after Genoa
