The historic Viale Guidoni wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Novoli, dates back to the 1920s, when the Sant’Ambrogio market was no longer big enough. An innovative project for the time, it drew inspiration from the style of the large US and Northern European markets. In 2006 Mecafir (Market of Opportunities), open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12.30 to 7.00pm, was opened a short distance away in via dell’Olmatello with the idea of preventing waste by retailing, at a discounted price, all the fruit and vegetables the market wholesalers had not managed to sell.
