Church of Madonna della Tosse is located in the area along the Mugnone River near Porta San Gallo. It owes its name to the tabernacle in which is preserved the effigy depicting the Madonna and Child between Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Saint John the Baptist, which was considered miraculous for healing of whooping cough or ‘the 100-day cough’. Built in 1604, the church has a Baroque façade that creates a curious contrast with the Renaissance-style interior, due to a 19th-century renovation.
